University of Washington: Travel Writing Class

uw-travel-writing.jpg

I’m teaching a travel writing class with the University of Washington’s Experimental College!  The class is 6:30-10pm on July 31st.  And—thanks to some friends at Lake Union Charters & Adventures—it’s on a boat!

Travel writing is a thrilling pursuit that requires a sense of adventure, a keen eye for detail, and a storyteller’s flair. We’ll work on practical skills for writing nonfiction travelogues, including character sketches, point-of-view, and scene construction. We’ll discuss options for publishing, including essays, blogs, guidebooks, memoirs, and articles, and you’ll leave with a wide range of resources and suggested further reading. Bring your questions, your favorite travel stories, and your notebook.
